Before visiting Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain I had never attended a professional soccer/futbol game. While I have been to other organized to sporting events, I found that the energy of this one is much different than what I had experienced at home. Unlike stadiums in the US many futbol stadiums in Europe and other places do not serve alcoholic beverages. We were told this is out of reverence for the game itself. At any given sporting event here at home I could expect a fair percentage of the attendees to be under the influence of alcohol and especially rowdy because of it. I found there is something truly unique about being in a space where the sport being observed is paramount to anything else. I was moved by the culture of comrade & the emphasis on being present.
